100% Renewable Energy
North Sea Salt Works uses only 100% renewable energy in our sea salt production and in our facilities. We believe strongly in protecting our environment and we are committed to adhering to sustainable production practices.
Our hydro electric energy comes from one source – Driva Hydro Power Plant in Sunndal county, Møre og Romsdal, Norway. The Hydro Plant utilises the drop of 565 meters between Gjevilvatnet, pictured to the right, and the river Driva to generate its power. The power production is certified according to the international EECS-standard (European Energy Certificate System) and is documented by issuance of electronic Guarantees of Origin by a member of AIB – Association of Issuing Bodies. Accounting of Guarantees of Origin is done by ECOHZ AS, Oslo, in accordance with Norwegian law (Norwegian Energy Act with related regulations) and European Directives (EU directives concerning promotion of renewable energy). Certificate available upon request.
